Rebirth,Techno Golf, and Video Games... And the start of the NHL season...

So, just in case you simply cannot get enough golf in your diet, check this out:

This brings me around to the rebirth of golf...

Never before has golf been so widely played, and followed so closely, as it is now. Where did this sudden surge of interest come from? Many would say that young exciting players making their mark on the game have increased interest (Tiger perhaps?), or is it the stream of golf movies being released that are endearing us to the game? (Legend of Bagger Vance, Tin Cup).

The answer for me is all of the above... There were two major factors that brought me to love golf: The Adam Sandler movie "Happy Gilmore" and close friends who already loved the game.

Honestly, I always thought golf was lame. The stereo typical vision of old men in funny looking plaid pants, or god forbid, rediculous looking bloomers and knee socks; let's not forget rediculous looking tams. How could it possibly be a good time watching these clowns play, other than the sheer "look at these goons" laugh that quickly grows tired...

Well, it took Happy Gilmore to show me the way. I am admittedly a Hockey fanatic, and have been since I was young. My favorite team? well, I'll give you a hint... They haven't won a cup in almost the last fourty years... This Adam Sandler movie married hockey with golf, and showed me and millions of other movie goers that golf can actually be a lot of fun, and interesting.

So it was the suggestion of friends, and the vision of punching out Bob Barker that lead me to love this great game. An odd marriage, but a healthy happy relationship!

Well, it is October now, and almost time to put the clubs away... Very sad... There is always the golf trips to warm places; with any luck it will be Hawaii this year... YAY!!!

The one thing I can take solace in, is video games... Hurray for the Tiger Woods series of golf games... Between Hockey, Tiger 2006 and indoor golf domes I can survive the bitter sting of winter. If you love golf, and need your fix, play Tiger Woods 2006... This game is a big improvement over last years offering. Tiger 2005 was a great game, but it focused too much on making the game controls as simple as possible; it was too easy in fact. Putting was made routine with the caddy tips which tell you where to aim as long as you can gauge the on screen distances. So come on, get Tiger 2006, build your character to look like you, and outfit your character with the latest equipment; then prepare your friends for the whopping they deserve...
