Michelle Wie just misses the cut in Japan...
It is official, Michelle Wie did not make the cut to continue on in the Casio World Open at Kochi Kuroshio Country Club. Wie missed the cut by a hair, failing to make par on the 18th. Wie becomes only the second woman to ever play in a Japanese Men's event, keeping company with Sophie Gustafson who also missed the cut for the Casio World open in 2003.
Here is the thing though... Who organized this tournament? According to media reports, Wie, and other competitors were forced to wait 20 minutes or more between holes.
As a golfer, particularly in tournament play, nothing will hinder a good round like the frustration of having to stop for extended periods of time between holes. There is a certain flow that should be maintained, and too much time idle can cause you to become stiff, or distracted. In big tournaments, particularly when you feel you have something to prove, delays can affect your mental game.
At only 16 years of age, Michelle Wie is well on her way to becoming a household name. After missing this tournament, and her previous penalty for turning in an incorrect scorecard, I am very pleased to see that she remains undaunted.
Michelle, the Shave5Strokes team salutes you, and wishes you nothing but success in future tournaments!
To quote Rob Schneider in just about every Adam Sandler movie: "You can do it!"
