Cardinal Golf Club East Course - more...

Located just west of Newmarket, Ontario, Cardinal Golf Club offers 36 holes, plus manages Kettle Creek, a short par 58 family course.

The Shave5Strokes team played their East course, which while quite challenging, offered up more frustration than we deemed necessary for the mid-range price tag. Our major gripes included oddly constructed holes, with drastic elevation changes often costing you a "no choice" stroke.

A fine example is the first hole: After a solid tee shot, all but the longest drivers need to make a lay up shot for position on the green which is elevated a roughly thirty feet from where the fairway ends.

The course is in good condition, and provides more than enough challenge, but our experience proved inadequate marshalling on the course. Golfers playing in unacceptable attire, and some with no shirts on made for a very disappointing round. Once informed, the marshals did nothing to remedy the problem.

We are told that the West course is far superior, so until further notice, avoid the East course.
